Kate, the owner, is an artist and film maker. Her fine art and design background is apparent in the products she's chosen for Flying Squirrel, her never-ending art project and second child. It is important to her that the store is a nice place to be and that the days of the FS staff are filled with music, light, color, snacks, babies and dogs.
You can expect to find Flying Squirrel's shelves filled with Brooklyn locally made products, children's goods with an eye for design, and goofy gifts that even adults appreciate. Kate is available to give you advice which she draws from her deep love for the products she carries and the fellow artists who created them. She's always available to help with questions that new parents sometimes feel too shy to ask and is happy to help you learn to wear your Ergo Baby Carrier correctly so that you can grow to love carrying your baby as much as she loved carrying hers.
Flying Squirrel also features a second-hand department which offers community parents a place where they can trade in their gently used clothing, books and toys for fabulous brands for kids of all ages.
